久々の学校では教えてくれないグッドラッパー英語。今回は

suck

を取り上げます。

これなのですが、本来の suck はこれなのに、今ではこの他動詞としての使い方はマイノリティだったりもします。

むしろこちらの自動詞としてずっとよく使われていたりします。

と毒づいたところ、皆が笑い転げてしまい仕事(というか授業)にならなかったことがあったっけ。

ところがこの自動詞としての suck の用法、どうも出所が判然としない。有名どころで

これでも、これ当初予測より下がってるんですよ。実は人口増加、ずっと国連予測の下ぎりぎりで来ています。同ページには今後の予測も出ていますが、私は緑のラインで落ち着くと考えております。すなわち、人類は80億のラインを超えることはないだろう、と。これは「弾言」にも書きました。

これがどういうことか。

ということです。

ということです。

この自動詞 suck の反対は rock があてられています。 I hate English but it rocks when I sware :)なんて使い方をするわけですが、他動詞としての rock はどうでしょう。How do we stop sucking the world and start rocking it?

と考えて出たとりあえずの結論が、「働かざるもの、飢えるべからず」だったのですが、皆さんの結論はどうでしょうか?
