これを書いている時点に置けるダウンロード数は120万とのことだが、仮にこれらの全てが高解像度版(約60MB/DL)だとして、www.j-comi.jpが実際に使っているAmazon AWSでも72,000GB * $0.19/GB = $13,680、昨今隆盛著しい国内VPSを使えばさらに安くなる。

Amazon AWSのつらいところは、何といってもトラフィックに対しても課金が生じること。早い話、パケ死が怖い。

国内VPSには、それがない。パケホーダイなのである。

月490円のServersMan@VPSですらそうなのだ。

同時接続数10では100Mbps真っ黒、100でも7割。

チューニングを一切施していないApacheでも、静的コンテンツならこれくらいはいける。

CPU喰いの動的コンテンツはとにかく、データを右から左へ送るお仕事であれば、ServersMan@VPSはコストパフォーマンスでは最強ではなイカ。

現実的な数字として有効帯域幅はこの半分としても、ServersMan@VPS一台で5,000 Kbytes/sec * 86,400 sec/day = 432,000,000 Kbytes = 432G bytes。「ラブひな」なら高解像度版でも7,200部、ライト版なら21,600部配れることになる。

ユーザー:そんな借りて大丈夫か?

もちろん単純にVPSを100台借りればすむ話ではない。負荷分散をどうするかなど、課題はあるし、個人向けVPSを10単位、100単位で借りるというのは、マクドナルドで「ハッピーセット100個下さい」というようなもので、何も考えずに事を進めたら「ちょっとそれは勘弁して下さい」という話にもなりうる。

しかしたとえば協力者を20人募って、配布サーバー(実際にはキャッシュサーバーになるだろう)のインストーラを用意した上で「VPSを5つ借りてください。費用はお支払いします」というのであればそれもクリアーできてしまいそうだ。

このあたりを面倒見てくれるのがAmazon AWSのいいところではあるが、見ての通り手数料は決して安いとはいえない。ミリオンDLならアシスタントの給料分ぐらい簡単にすっ飛ぶ。

それならば、その分人に回して運用を工夫した方が、日本経済のためにも回線のためにもよいというものだ。

うーん、こう書いていたら、そんな「野良CDN」を自分で作りたくなってきたぞ…
